Here at Keystone Clinic & Surgery, we hold a strong belief that we can only truly better improve our patients’ overall well being by working hand-in-hand with them. Aligned with the goals of Healthier SG, we too believe that our patients can take proactive steps to manage their health and prevent the onset of chronic diseases.
We discovered that many of our patients had a significant gap in their knowledge regarding health-related matters. Hence, we wanted to correct their misunderstandings, debunk any myths and misconceptions, and educate them on Singapore’s healthcare initiatives.
We conducted a mini-exhibition outside our clinics in May 2023 to raise awareness about women’s health in conjunction with International Day of Action for Women’s Health and Mother’s Day. We printed posters with information regarding common women’s diseases and had our doctors and clinical staff on site to answer any queries the patients might have.
We also partnered with Bedok Constituency in 2023 to organise bi-monthly health talks to educate the elderly residents around the Bedok and Upper Changi vicinity. We conducted these talks at various Residents’ Committees (RC) and educated them about medical conditions that were relevant to their age group such as Dementia and Osteoporosis. Our doctors also shared tips on healthy ageing as well as educating the elderly residents on various government health initiatives and schemes. We were very encouraged to see how the residents also learnt from the questions that their fellow residents asked, and some of them even came down regularly as they were keen to continuously gain more knowledge on the various health topics that were shared.
We expanded our outreach in 2024, partnering with Ixora RC and St. Andrews’ Senior Care to educate their elderly residents about the importance of preventive health.
We also conducted a paediatric talk for parents in partnership with Invictus Pre School on 6 November 2024.
We were also one of the chosen organisations to partner with NUS Business Students for their Final Year Project. They hoped to gain a better understanding of the whole value chain of clinics and to investigate if there is a possibility of e-pharmacies value-adding to the clinics.
We partnered with students from the Higher Nitec in Nursing, Institute of Technical Education East (ITE East) to conduct a general health screening for the public in tandem with our Women’s Health Exhibition in May 2023. Under the supervision of their lecturers and our doctors, the students assisted with educating the public about various health screening programmes that were available to the different age groups and genders. They also helped to take blood pressure and body mass index readings, as well as blood sugar levels utilising a blood glucose monitor for members of the public. They then filled up a health report card which was given to the attendees to keep.
We collaborated with Siglap Community Club (CC) for their East Coast Community Day on 8 July 2023. Given the vicinity to ITE East, we felt that it was another fruitful opportunity for us to collaborate and provide a platform for their students to increase their awareness of health education and hone their communication skills. Our clinical staff was on site with their lecturer to guide the students on how they could effectively communicate with the East Coast residents regarding their health. They were also able to practise their technical skills by providing blood pressure and body mass index readings once more. Watching the students eagerly interacting with the residents during these two events was heartwarming, and we hoped that these opportunities inspired them to keep their passion burning as they witnessed first hand how the residents benefitted from their interactions.
We partnered with Project Active Ageing Advocates (AAA), an initiative of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine), held at Toa Payoh Central CC from 21 to 22 October 2023. They emphasised on the importance of cultivating sustainable living habits given Singapore’s ageing population. As AAA targeted the physical, socio-emotional, and cognitive aspects of health for the elderly residents, we came onboard and partnered with Innoquest Diagnostics to provide free blood screenings to test for diabetes and cholesterols.
There were a total of 617 residents who participated and our doctors spent days after the event going through each and every one of the lab reports. We called every resident who had abnormal results and offered a free follow-up consultation to them as well as all of the other attendees. Despite the tenuous efforts, we were glad to have been able to be part of Project AAA 2023 as we felt that many elderly residents left the event with more knowledge on how to live a healthier lifestyle and were more aware of their own health conditions. We also greatly appreciated the efforts that NUS Medicine invested in Project AAA as it was definitely no easy feat to coordinate an event with so many different organisations.
As part of the Insurance and Financial Practitioners Association of Singapore (IFPAS) 55th anniversary celebrations, we provided LPA certifications for them at a preferential rate from December 2023 to August 2024. We also conducted numerous complimentary webinars and dialogue sessions for them as part of our efforts to educate their attendees on the nuances of LPAs to ensure that certifications would proceed smoothly. Our doctors were LPA advocates who were aiming to raise greater awareness in Singapore about the importance of LPAs.
The anniversary celebrations culminated with a Mega Event on 18 August 2024 at Toa Payoh West CC. Together with Emre Legal, we completed a total of 3,472 certifications which were fully sponsored by IFPAS. We also had a grand total of 6,573 attendees in our webinars and dialogue sessions.
These efforts extended further as we collaborated with the Prime Minister Office (PMO) and held an LPA dialogue session in mandarin for the Changi Simei residents. Following which, we participated in a follow-up LPA certification event at Changi Simei CC for over a hundred residents on 12 October 2024.
